Employee Assistance Programme

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME

A LOCAL SERVICE FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES IN LINCOLNSHIRE

What is an EAP?

Employee assistance programmes (EAP) are an employee benefit that provides your team with support and practical advice on issues that might be impacting their wellbeing and performance. An EAP generally includes face-to-face, telephone or online counselling and expert support on both personal and work-related issues, with the aim of increasing staff wellbeing and productivity, as well as reducing absences.

WHAT are the BENEFITS of an EAP?

Research shows that an engaged workforce has higher levels of productivity and greater staff retention.

Helps improve employee morale and engagement. Preventing personal issues from impacting on work, such as reducing absences from work.

Provides helpful insights into key issues and health risks within your organisation that can help to improve your wellbeing strategy.

It can enable your staff to feel empowered, supported and valued. They will have confidence to seek help when needed and to have a greater sense of autonomy for their own wellbeing. The ripple effect of this will directly impact the wider community.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

(ASIST)

is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid and more. ASIST teaches participants to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop – anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.

Since its initial development in 1983 by Living-Works, ASIST has received regular updates to reflect improvements in knowledge and practice, and over 2,000,000 people worldwide have taken the workshop. Studies show that the ASIST method helps reduce suicidal feelings in those at risk and is a cost-effective way to help address the problem of suicide.

Become a Mental Health First Aider

(MHFA)

Would you know how to help?

We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health. Mental ill health can strike at any time and can affect people from all walks of life.

Although things are improving, stigma still exists around mental ill health. As a society, we don't tend to know how to take care of our mental health like we do our physical health. This means that people may not know how to support a friend, family member or colleague experiencing a mental health issue, or where to go for support with their own mental health.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.

You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.

What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.
