In times of uncertainty, it can be difficult to know which way to turn. The lockdowns are like nothing we have experienced in this lifetime. With everyone in different circumstances, with varying different needs - each person is experiencing something completely new and different.
The most important thing right now is to remember to be kind.
There are many things that you can do during the lockdown to support your own mental health - and even the mental health of those around you.
Below are just some of the ways you can help improve your wellbeing during this time and please remember you are not alone.
If you are struggling with being cooped up with the same old scenery day in day out, try getting outside for some exercise. This could be something as simple as a walk around the block. Getting outside for some fresh air can really help boost your mood.
If you feel like it, you could go for a run or even try out some of the work out videos on YouTube. In line with the Government guidelines, you can exercise with one other person outside the home. If you are not comfortable exercising alone - you could find an exercise buddy, as long as you adhere to the guidelines and social distancing.
Although we cannot meet with our friends and family as normal, there are still ways you can connect. Social channels and the various video apps, allow us to remain close to the ones we love, safely.
Why not arrange a video quiz or even just a 10-minute daily chat with your circle?
You can even connect with your employees or colleagues. Daily chats and casual conversation with your colleagues is something that many have missed, why not schedule a catch-up, just to keep in touch with others during the day?
The internet can be amazing, you can learn new things, speak with your loved ones and even do your work remotely, but that doesn’t mean you should spend all of your time on it. Think about what is good for you and what isn’t. Spending your whole day reading news or social media content that makes you feel anxious and worried will not help you. It is OK to keep yourself informed, but try not to focus too much on what you cannot control.
Allocating yourself some time for something you enjoy is a must. With the pressures of homeschooling, working from home or doing extra-long shifts as a key worker - it is important to take some time for you.
It might seem like there is no spare time at all, but try and find an hour for yourself - it is incredibly beneficial to your wellbeing.
Taking some time out, helps you to take your mind of the everyday stresses and helps your brain to have a focus. Pick something that you love to do (even if you are not good at it). It could be meditation, painting, crafting, cooking - absolutely anything that you have a passion for and enjoy.
There are unexpected feelings that many have experienced as a result of the lockdown, including; anxiety, depressions, feelings of frustration and even anger. These are normal feelings, but if they stay for a long time, then it is time to take some action. These feelings can lead to differences in our daily lifestyle that can affect our sleep, exercise routines, diet and personal care, which will eventually lead to a negative impact on our wellbeing.
These are just some ideas that you could use to help improve your mood.

Coming in for couples counselling, we were both nervous about how the session would work having not done anything like this before.
He listened to each of us and made it feel very light-hearted and easy. We were able to share our feelings and thoughts and Ian gently guided us to explain our views to help us see each other’s views and gave us things to think about for next week.

Personally, I was a very sceptical individual and initially attended as a good Will gesture to my family who had encouraged me to do so……. that being said I found myself to be able to talk to (let’s be honest, a stranger) about my life and its difficulties in an open and comfortable fashion……. don’t get me wrong I’m no soft touch! But I found it genuinely comforting to be able to do so! …. it makes me ask and look for answers from myself ….. rather than someone with a title telling me what’s wrong……,
